The Function and Use of Ammonium Sulfate
Release time:2023-07-12   browse :49

Usage: Mainly used in protein purification processes, ammonium sulfate is an inert substance that is not easily reactive with other bioactive substances and can protect protein activity during the purification process. Additionally, ammonium sulfate has excellent solubility and can form a high salt environment, preparing for protein precipitation and subsequent high salt purification.

Preparation method of ammonium sulfate: ammonia and sulfuric acid are directly neutralized and reacted in industry, which is seldom used. The by-products or waste gas discharged in industrial production are mainly absorbed by sulfuric acid or ammonia water, and gypsum method is also used (natural gypsum or Phosphogypsum, ammonia, carbon dioxide as raw materials).

Chemical property: The pure product is colorless transparent rhombic crystal system, and the aqueous solution is acidic. Insoluble in alcohol, acetone, and ammonia. It has hygroscopicity and solidifies into blocks after moisture absorption. Heat to above 513 ℃ and completely decompose into ammonia, nitrogen, sulfur dioxide, and water. Reacting with alkalis releases ammonia gas. It reacts with Barium chloride solution to form Barium sulfate precipitation. It can also cause protein to salt out.
